Effective Speed Reading

APC's Effective Speed Reading class aims at building speed and comprehension for advanced readers. Techniques taught in class enable students to read materials at highly accelerated speeds. Students can apply these techniques to personal, academic, or job-related reading.

Students are taught to be flexible readers who can analyze reading material according to purpose, style, and level of difficulty and adjust their reading rates to match the type of material being read. Students have doubled their reading speed from taking this course.

Each class session includes instruction in reading techniques as well as practice with reading drills and exercises. Students learn to ascertain their words-per-minute scores, check their reading comprehension, and track their progress. They also learn supplementary skills such as high-speed skimming and study techniques.

Weekly homework assignments enable students to continue their progress outside of class. Materials needed for in-class practice and outside assignments are included in the course.
