How to Apply

If you would like to register for our Intensive English Program, our Semi-Intensive English Program, or for English Private Tutorials, please complete the application form below. You can also download our application form and mail or fax it in. Of course, you can also apply in person. Just come on by!

Applications will not be processed until the required fees have been received. The application fee is $50 for all English programs.

How to obtain an I-20 Form

Initial Attendance Students

If you are a new student applying for an F-1 student visa, please read the Information for F-1 students. Please make sure to request the "I-20 Form" when you complete the registration. Once we receive the $50 registration fee and a bank statement or letter from your bank, we will issue the I-20 form. We cannot send the I-20 form until we receive your bank statement and the application fee. If you have a sponsor, please see the sponsor information below. If your visa is denied, ILI will not refund the application fee. The I-20 form can be picked up in person at ILI, it can be airmailed for free to your country, or we can use express mail or courier service for an extra charge to send it to you.

After you receive our I-20 form, you will need to go to the US Embassy or Consulate in your country to obtain the F-1 Visa. read more

Transfer Students

We also enroll F-1 students who wish to transfer from other schools to ILI. Please enroll, submit your financial documents, a copy of your current I-20 and your passport. We will issue an enrollment letter and give you a transfer form to take to your old school. Once the transferring student has started classes at ILI, a new I-20 will be issued. Change of Status Students

We can assist current students of ILI with a change of status application for an F-1 student visa. Please read Information for Change of Status Applicants. Once all necessary documents and fees have been received, ILI will issue an I-20 and send your change of status application to immigration.

Please remember, the I-20 Form will not be issued to those applying to our Semi-Intensive Program.

Financial Responsibility

It is very important to note that U.S. law forbids our acceptance of F-1 student visa applicants who do not have sufficient funds to study at ILI without the necessity to work. In order to comply with immigration regulations, the applicant must present evidence showing that sufficient funds ($1,700 per month) are available when applying for the F-1 student visa (I-20 Form). A current (less than 3 month old) personal bank statement or a letter from your bank is acceptable.

Sponsor Information (if you are not paying for your studies)

Sponsors living outside the United States will need to send, email or fax a current bank statement. The sponsor must also submit a letter stating his or her intention to sponsor the student. Sponsors living in the United States will need to submit an affidavit of support (I-134 form) along with a current bank statement.

Method of Payment

We accept cash, personal checks drawn on a U.S. bank, traveler's checks, money orders, Western Union, and credit cards. If you wish to pay by credit card via our secure website, please send your credit card number, including the expiration date, the security code and the billing address. If you wish to pay by wire, please contact us for wiring instructions. We do not accept foreign checks or foreign debit cards.

Payment Policy

The application fee is due at time of enrollment and non-refundable unless we are unable to place the student. Tuition is due the first day of class, a late fee of $15 per week will be charged for any tuition more than 3 days late. Students with open balances are not allowed to re-enroll until all balances have been paid. The fee for returned checks is $15. The fee for incoming and outgoing international bank wires is $30.

Refund Policy Acknowledgement:*

I agree to Transemantics/ILI's refund policy: The $50.00 application fee is non-refundable unless enrollment is cancelled within 72 hours of signing or if Transemantics/ILI is unable to place the student in the appropriate level. Fees for reimbursable services such as SEVIS registration and express delivery are non-refundable once the service is completed. A full tuition refund will be given if requested before the start date of the scheduled class(es) or if a prospective student has his/her visa application rejected. A full tuition refund will be given if a class is cancelled by Transemantics/ILI or if a student is rejected for enrollment. A prorated tuition refund will be given to a student who withdraws prior to the completion of 75% of the student’s scheduled class. Withdrawal notification has to be submitted in writing by the last day of attendance. Unattended days prior to written notification of withdrawal will count as attended classes. The prorated tuition refund shall be determined by the ratio of the number of weeks or lessons completed by the student to the total number of weeks of the student’s scheduled class(es). Any portion of a week’s attendance by a student shall be considered a full week’s attendance for this purpose. There is no tuition refund after completion of 75% of the student's scheduled classes. Refunds will be made by check for all cash, check or debit card payments and by credit card for all credit card payments within 30 days of receiving written notification or within 30 days of Transemantics/ILI cancellation of class(es). Weekly tuition credits for vacations or other planned absences are only given if notification is received in advance. There are no retroactive credits for unattended weeks and there are no credits for individual unattended days. There is no credit or refund of tuition for days on which ILI is closed because of holidays, bad weather or other emergencies. Once received by the student, books and other materials are the property of the student and are non-refundable.

I understand that all tuition is due the first day of class. I understand that I will be charged a late fee of $15 for any tuition more than 3 days late. I understand that I can not re-enroll for classes until I have paid all open balances.

Private, semi-private and special group classes cancelled by the student(s) (including "no-shows") may be made up only if notice is given by the student(s) to ILI either by phone (202) 362-2505 or by email to ili@transemantics.com. The student(s) must call or send an email to cancel at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled class(es) or by noon Friday for any classes scheduled on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. If student fails to cancel on time, full tuition must be paid for the missed class(es).

Semi-private and small group classes must be cancelled by all students enrolled in class. Cancellation by just one student (in a semi-private or special group class) is not accepted and does not release that student from paying for the missed class.

Medical & Liability Release:*

I grant permission for ILI to arrange for emergency medical treatment of the Applicant during the period of enrollment and while participating in an ILI after school activity. I waive all claims against ILI and its employees for any injury, accident, or illness occurring during or by any reason of participating in an ILI activity.
